I’m back! Just signed up for The Quick Start Challenge, which is what got me writing again. Yeah, I know it’s been a very long time since I’ve updated my blog with a new post. Since I’ve started this blog, I ended up creating another blog that supports my offline beauty supply sales business, called Taming Of The Do.com.
I started focusing more of my free time setting up that blog and creating content. This took a lot of whatever free time I had left over building my beauty business. While I was working on that, I ended up neglecting my personal blog. It’s hard enough to consistently post on a single blog, but trying to do two blogs is not very doable if you have a very busy lifestyle.
The Quick Start Challenge
So recently I got an email from Dean Holland and Craig Crawford that they were opening up their Quick Start Challenge again. They've offered this program for several years now. When the program was offered last year, I did not sign up because the price was $197. That really isn’t a bad price for a coaching program. Since I had already invested in other coaching programs, I could not justify spending another $197 at the time.
This year was different though. For the first time ever they were offering the Quick Start Challenge for under $15! When I first saw the sales video I thought there was a catch, because it just looked too good to be true. The way I look at it, for $15 it was worth the risk! So without a second thought I signed up and started the program.
They kicked off the first coaching session this week. The training started off with a webinar featuring Dean and Craig giving us a little pep talk on how they got started and the struggles they went through.
They also gave us some examples of how other people succeeded by sticking to the program and doing the work. Each week they will have a webinar with training and then a couple days later they will follow that up with a Facebook Q and A session in the Facebook group. They also encouraged everyone to post in the group and ask questions there if they get stuck.
Our First Challenge
Our first challenge was to get a domain, hosting, and install WordPress. Before the program ever started, they put in the members area a series of up-to-date videos on how to set up your first WordPress blog. That alone was worth the price of entry into this program, so I already got my money's worth as far as I'm concerned.
Since I already had a blog set up, I was ahead of the game. So this is my first blog post for this program. I was going to document the steps in this first Challenge, but my blog had already been set up. There are lots of videos on YouTube on how to do the basic things needed to set up a blog.
1. Register Your Domain Name
The first step is to register a domain name. A domain is like an address to tell people where your website is located. I use NameCheap.com because it is highly recommended by other marketers. There are many other sites to choose from, but you want to make sure you keep your domain company separate from the company you buy your hosting from. That way if something happens with one company, you don’t lose everything. So to keep this short, here is a video I found on how to register your domain name on NameCheap:
2. Get Hosting & Install WordPress
The next thing you need is a hosting account. This is where your site gets installed. Again, there are many choices, but you need to choose wisely with hosting. Stay away from any hosting company under the “EIG” umbrella of companies, such as Host Gator, Blue Host, and others. These have been deemed by other marketers as bad choices due to past negative experiences.
I’ve heard good reviews regarding D9, Siteground, and InMotion just to name a few. Do a little research to find one that fits your needs. You don’t need anything expensive or fancy starting out. Choose a plan that will allow several domains for a low price. Don’t buy the cheapest plan. Get the next one up from that to start. I personally use InMotion hosting, which has been good so far.
